About this Event
Creativity belongs to everyone.
You don’t have to call yourself an artist. You don’t have to be good at anything. You just have to be willing to make something.
Alas Negras is a community art circle centered on creativity, connection, and the practice of making together.
Bring something you’re already working on or something you’ve been wanting to begin. You might write, paint, draw, collage, sew, crochet, sketch, make jewelry, work with photos, or simply experiment. There is no expectation that you finish anything or create something “good.” The point is to make alongside one another.
We’ll spend our time working on our individual projects, sharing food and conversation, and exchanging stories about art, creativity, culture, and the things that inspire us.
What to bring
• Something creative to work on
• Something sweet or savory to share
• Your curiosity, stories, and creative energy
There is no cost to attend.
About the space
Alas Negras intentionally centers people of color and our experiences, histories, creative practices, and ways of knowing. People of all identities who feel comfortable participating in a space grounded in these values are welcome.
We believe community is something we practice. We value care, consent, respect, direct communication, accountability, and repair when possible.
We all bring something to the circle, and we all take something with us.
A note about registration
Signing up helps us prepare the space and plan. Space is limited, so please only reserve a spot if you’re reasonably sure you can join us. If your plans change, please cancel your registration so we can make the space available for others.
