On 11 November, the State Youth Theatre welcomes the Kyiv Academic Theatre of Drama and Comedy on the Left Bank of the Dnipro with Confronting the Shadow, directed by Tamara Trunova, one of the most prominent voices in contemporary Ukrainian theatre.
Confronting the Shadow explores the trauma of war, its psychological burden, and what it means to live in a state of constant crisis. Yet the war itself is not portrayed directly. Instead, Trunova turns inward, toward the human mind, where fear, doubt, pain and irony exist alongside resistance, laughter and the search for meaning. Confronting The Shadow
Bold in both form and content, the production blurs the boundaries between the personal, the political and the historical. Confronting one’s inner darkness becomes not only an act of recognition, but also a possibility for transformation.
The production was created in partnership between the Left Bank Theatre in Kyiv and Berliner Festspiele, with the support of the Goethe-Institut. Confronting The Shadow
