An 18-metre tall, 15-tonne rotating bust of Nefertiti overlooks the stage. 130 performers and musicians bring Ancient Egypt to life. Fireworks light up the sky at every performance.
Aida is the biggest opera we’ve ever mounted on Sydney Harbour. Verdi sets an intimate story of forbidden love against the fates of empires, where kingdoms rise and fall and history marches relentlessly on.
Few stages in the world can match Sydney Harbour for a production of this scale: as city lights begin to sparkle and the Sydney Opera House is silhouetted against the setting sun. With pop-up bars and dining this is one of the city’s most treasured events.
But amid all of the spectacle, there’s an emotional heart. Long after the fireworks have faded from the sky and Amneris sings her quiet, concluding prayer, you’ll see the true mastery of this opera: it is at once an historic epic and a profoundly moving human tragedy.
Itinerary:
Day 1:
Departing Port Bus by 06:45 (time TBC) Off to Buladelah for morning tea. Lunch n Shop stop at Westfield Tuggerah. Checking in to the Great Southern Hotel around 15:00. Kick back relax, go for a walk or a beverage at the bar and dinner is at 16:30. Departing for the Opera House @ 17:30 for a showtime of 19:00.
Day 2:
After our hot plated breakfast, we head back to the Opera House for our 1-hour guided tour. This tour does involve a lot of stairs. We will grab a cuppa before departing around 11:15. Lunch stop @ Heatherbrae; comfort stop at Taree Service Centre and then drops off commencing around 16:00. Back in the depot around 17:30.
