Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the way information is created, discovered, filtered, interpreted and shared. At the same time, information overload is becoming an increasingly important challenge for individuals, organisations, researchers and the systems we design.
AI, Information Overload, and What Comes Next is a one-day research workshop hosted by the University of Strathclyde, with the University of Wolverhampton and the University of Southampton as co-organisers.
The workshop will bring together internationally renowned researchers from the OMINO — Overcoming Multilevel INformation Overload project to present and discuss findings, ideas and research developed over the project's four-year programme, while looking ahead to the challenges and research opportunities that come next.
OMINO brings together researchers working across disciplines to understand information overload at multiple levels. Its work explores how information overload can be measured, modelled and mitigated, with research spanning areas including information retrieval, recommendation, artificial intelligence, social science, neuroscience, journalism, computing, data mining and complexity science.
The workshop will provide an opportunity to explore work emerging from OMINO alongside other related research across Artificial Intelligence (AI), Information Retrieval (IR) and neighbouring disciplines. We hope to create a space where researchers and practitioners can exchange perspectives, identify connections between different areas of work and collectively discuss future directions for research into increasingly complex information environments.

The day is expected to include:
- Research presentations from researchers involved in the OMINO project
- A keynote contribution
- Findings and perspectives emerging from the four-year OMINO collaboration
- Research relating to Artificial Intelligence (AI), Information Retrieval (IR), information overload and related areas
- Discussion across different disciplines and research communities

- A broader discussion and brainstorming session around emerging challenges, future research directions and opportunities for continued collaboration
