About this Event
The O’Neill Institute in collaboration with the American Constitution Society, Feminist Majority Foundation, Ms. magazine and other organizations will sponsor a town hall on AI and the Future of Law, Society, and Democracy. This event will be held at Georgetown University’s downtown Capitol Campus, near the seat of government.
Featuring Representative Ted Lieu, Representative Jonathan Jackson, White House Correspondent Jon Decker, and others, this important town hall convening brings together lawmakers, civil society leaders, tech ethicists, and legal experts to understand artificial intelligence in relation to democracy, rule of law, and social safety. Can artificial intelligence be used for good? And at what cost? Are the concerns and lawsuits involving AI and youth addiction overstated and isolated? Can fears related to data centers and environmental harms be mitigated? And which communities are likely to be most at risk of environmental pollution and water safety concerns related to data centers? What risks are posed to national security and privacy worries related to hacking? And finally, who benefits from AI in health and who are those harmed and left behind?
This town hall puts forth important and urgent questions in the backdrop of AI developers and tech ethicists ringing alarm bells. Are their worries related to AI overstated or timely warnings that should be heeded now? Together, these diverse voices will help us to understand the benefits and risks of artificial intelligence to law, society, and democracy.
Reception to follow.
