The Society's AGM takes place on Thursday 1 October. This is an opportunity for members to have their say and shape the future of the Society. Following the talk, our Vice Chair, Mark Hourahane, will be giving a talk on Local Scandals! Local newspapers can be an invaluable resource when tracing your family tree. Join Mark to take a look at some criminal cases, controversies and comedic reports - including a look at how attitudes have changed, and why you should sometimes take news reporting with a pinch of salt!
Mark is a local historian who also sits on the committees of the Folkestone & District Local History Society, New Folkestone Society, Stanford & Westenhanger History Society and Kent Federation of Amenity Societies. He also helps administer the Saint Eanswythe Research Group and oversees the Leas Pavilion Archive.
The talk takes place in All Souls Church Hall, Somerset Road, Cheriton. Parking is available in the surrounding roads or the free Broomfield Road car park.
Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Refreshments will be served before the AGM. Admission is £2 (free to members) - cash only. Non-members will be unable to vote in the AGM but are welcome to join prior to the meeting! Membership starts at £15 per year.
