Prywatne archiwum miesza się z obrazami krążącymi w sieci, a konkretne osoby, gesty i sytuacje zaczynają funkcjonować poza swoim pierwotnym kontekstem.
Kus wyjmuje ją z pierwotnego kontekstu i pozwala jej powrócić w innej formie.

Agata Kus’s exhibition launches a unique public-private partnership – a joint venture between Bunkier Sztuki and PALACE, a dining and cultural concept venue located at 4 Piłsudskiego Street in Kraków. The exhibition will feature five painted objects and ten oil paintings produced between 2018 and 2026.
Agata Kus begins with photography, drawing from her own shots, family albums, and images found online, which she crops, selecting specific fragments to transform them into painterly compositions. Traces of the digital image sometimes remain in her paintings: Instagram frames, timestamps, or battery levels. Private archives blend with images circulating online, while specific individuals, gestures, and situations begin to function outside their original contexts.
"Spirits" can be read not only as a narrative about contemporary social life but also as an encounter between two orders of memory. On the one hand, there is the memory of the smartphone: rapid, selective and filled with images preserved for later. On the other, the memory of the place. The palace at 4 Piłsudskiego Street was once a hub of social life. Destroyed during the war, it was subsequently rebuilt and served for decades as the seat of a theological seminary.
In this sense, Kus’s paintings tap into a space replete with traces. They capture nightlife, music, alcohol, intimacy, and a sense of carefreeness, but also the aftermath: fatigue, distance, memory, and the realisation that every shared moment must end. The figures within them appear like modern-day spectres. Photography captures a moment that has already passed; Kus lifts it from its original context and allows it to return in a different form.
"Spirits" explores a theme that is just beneath the surface. Nearby, Stanisław Wyspiański wrote The Wedding [Wesele] – a drama in which a nocturnal gathering, alcohol, music, and apparitions set in motion a narrative of memory and history. The final straw-man dance [chocholi taniec] becomes a portrait of a community entrapped in a repetitive rhythm. Kus presents a contemporary portrait of a community attempting, for a brief moment, to forget the past and the future. Perhaps that is precisely why her “spirits” feel so close.
"Spirits" will be the first exhibition presented as part of the collaboration between Bunkier Sztuki and PALACE. A new exhibition space, “Bunkier w PAŁACU”, is being launched in the historic building at 4 Piłsudskiego Street. Co-managed by Bunkier Sztuki, it will be open to PALACE guests in the evenings. In the future, this unique venue will also host an artist residency programme.
