About this Event
Join us for a powerful afternoon of artistic expression, cultural reflection, and community connection in the outdoors.
African Textile Painting: Pattern & Power is an immersive, hands-on workshop where participants will create symbolic artwork directly onto authentic African textiles, hand-selected and brought from Dakar, Senegal. Using these vibrant fabrics as canvas, you’ll be guided to explore your personal story through color, texture, and pattern—connecting your creativity to deeper themes of identity, ancestry, and inner strength.
This workshop celebrates the relationship between African design, personal expression, and cultural storytelling. It’s a space to reflect, express, and root your voice in the power of tradition.
What to Expect:
🖼️ A grounding introduction on symbolism and storytelling in African textile design
🎨 Guided abstract painting session using oil pastels on stretched African textiles
🧵 A creative process that honors your personal narrative and ancestral memory
🌿 Outdoor experience with space to breathe, reflect, and connect
🧺 Water and blankets provided—bring your own comfort items as needed
✨ This experience connects with themes explored in Roots & Revolutions, a 12-week course on African history, identity, and resistance. More information on the course will be shared during the event.
