This will be and afternoon of discussions and Afro-Brazilian musical performance to honour Black history. The event is designed to open lines of communication and conversation with people of the African diaspora in the north of England and to promote Afro-optimism.
The talks will be integrated with performances of music inspired by capoeira Angola, an Afro-Brazilian martial art.
The event is organised by Jamie Gladstone, lecturer in Race and Education at Leeds Beckett University.
Special guests are William Sousa, director of BHZ connection, a volunteer programme established in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Joining them is Peter Kelley, teacher and African Heritage historian.
