African Drum Making Retreat, With Xavier and Arnda Location: Trees of Trenance, Adelaide Hills, Bugle Rangers

Join us for a deeply immersive two-day retreat where you will craft your own full-sized African djembe drum surrounded by nature, rhythm, community, and connection.
Guided by Xavier, you will work hands-on with skin, rope, and wood, learning the traditional process of creating your drum from beginning to end. Throughout the weekend, Xavier will also share foundational playing techniques, West African rhythms, ensemble drumming, and drum care and tightening methods.
As the sun sets on Saturday evening, we will gather around the fire for a heart-opening cacao ceremony facilitated by Arnda, followed by a guided drumming journey with Xavier, an opportunity to connect more deeply to rhythm, community, and the spirit of the drum beneath the night sky.
This retreat is more than simply making an instrument. It is an opportunity to slow down, reconnect through rhythm, create with intention, and experience the grounding and meditative nature of drum crafting within a supportive retreat environment.
Each participant will leave with their own handcrafted drum and the knowledge to continue their drumming journey beyond the retreat.
