This hands-on workshop offers a rare opportunity to get safely up close to a thriving honey bee colony. With guidance from the lead beekeeper Julie from The Bees Knees Apiary, you'll suit up, open a hive, and experience the incredible world of honey bees firsthand. A small jar of honey to take home is also included.
After a brief overview of life inside a beehive, you'll suit up and open a real hive. Learn to identify the queen, workers, drones, brood, and the honey and pollen stores that support the colony.
You’ll get hands-on experience with essential beekeeping tools. Julie will demonstrate how to perform routine hive inspections, looking for signs of health, disease, and pests.
You don't need to be a future beekeeper to enjoy this experience. It's a chance connect with nature, learn something new, and see one of the most fascinating systems in the natural world up close.
Bring the kids! With children's bee suits now available, this experience is open to ages 5 to 12.
