Climb a rugged desert summit through remote washes, steep mountain terrain, and sweeping views across the Anza-Borrego desert Join us for a challenging ascent of Coyote Peak in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. This desert adventure takes you across rugged, unmarked terrain with steep climbs, loose rock, scrambling, ridge walking, and route-finding along the way to the summit. At approximately 3,192 feet, Coyote Peak rewards the effort with expansive views of Coyote Canyon, the surrounding desert, and the Santa Rosa Mountains.
What to Expect:
Approximately 5.3-mile out-and-back hike with roughly 2,600 feet of elevation gain
Cross-country, unmarked terrain requiring route-finding and scrambling
Steep, loose rocky sections and ridge walking
Sweeping panoramic views from the summit and along the route
Hiking poles recommended
Who Should Attend:
Experienced hikers in good physical condition who are comfortable with significant elevation gain
Hikers comfortable traveling off-trail and navigating rugged, lightly traveled terrain
Adventurers looking for a challenging and rewarding desert summit experience
Anyone prepared for strenuous hiking, scrambling, and remote desert conditions

In his professional life, Sergey Kuhsch has spent over 16 years in software development across different industries. In contrast, much of his free time is dedicated to exploring the natural world. As much as he enjoys hiking in chaparral or exploring the local mountains, he feels that Anza Borrego is a very special place. The sheer size and accessibility of the park are unlike any other in the region. The rugged landscape, endless vistas, and hidden oases offer unique opportunities to explore. Sergey feels that supporting the Anza Borrego Foundation is the most impactful way to support AnzaBorrego Desert State Park.
