Annual Advent/Christmas Concert
River Road Chancel Choir
We are deeply grateful that Dr. Richard Robbins joined the River Road Church pastoral staff as Minister of Music in mid-July. Richard comes to River Road after serving as Director of Choral Activities at Shenandoah University; he also serves as Director of the Richmond Symphony Chorus and as Choral Editor for OCP Choral. A longtime church musician and choral conductor, Richard approaches choral singing as both an artistic and pastoral ministry, with particular attention to the ways music can form community and deepen worship. He has devoted more than twenty years of his professional life to church music, serving Catholic, United Methodist, Presbyterian, and Episcopal congregations.
Richard holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of Houston. His choirs have been featured on American Public Media’s Pipedreams, and his work has encompassed singers of all ages, with extensive experience working with high school singers, youth choirs, and collegiate voices.

From the earliest days of River Road Church, it was the intention of the founders that the music ministry be of the highest quality. Music at River Road Church is rooted in the work of time-honored composers of the “classical” tradition, while embracing a wide range of styles and periods.
The majestic Sanctuary at River Road Church has long been a favorite venue for lovers of traditional church music. This concert will also provide the church an opportunity to share the result of a recent restoration of its magnificent M.P. Möller Company pipe organ. The sanctuary has also received upgrades to its lighting and sound systems, further enhancing the church's worship of God through music.
