About this Event
Course Dates: 4 sessions, August 8, 15, 22, and 29 Wednesdays, 6-8 p.m.
Course Description:
This month-long course is designed for participants who have some bookbinding experience and really want to delve into the exploration of materials. The first two sessions will be devoted to learning multi-signature book forms such as the long-stitch and Coptic stitch to expand the possibilities of sewing paper and other found materials into traditional book forms. The second half of the course will be devoted to exploring what goes beyond tradition—and how the materials we source around us plays a part in defining how a book is made. Students will be asked to think about the objects found at the Wasteshed to create new interactions between “book and reader,” playing with folding, stitching, and gluing to design and fabricate several sample books that can continue to be explored beyond the class.
