About this Event
Spend Halloween afternoon exploring the art of gravestone rubbing, then experiment with texture and watercolor to create a work of your own.
Begin with a tour of led by exhibition curator Michaela Haffner from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Learn how Parker and Neal used paper and wax crayons to capture the carved imagery of historic New England gravestones and preserve their symbols, textures, and stories.
After the tour, head to the Lounge for an art-making activity inspired by the artists’ rubbing process. Arrange leaves and flowers beneath your paper and use white crayon to capture their textures, then apply watercolor washes to reveal the impressions hidden beneath.
Enjoy snacks and drinks while you work, including a seasonal apple cider spritz or try the nonalcoholic version.
American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation may be provided during this event upon advance request.
