ADHD 2.0 Training: Transforming ADHD with Advanced Diagnostic Techniques

Training goes beyond DSM-5-TR ADHD criteria to reveal invisible cognitive and emotional drivers in diverse, often missed populations.
About this Event

Training Description

While the DSM-5-TR remains the diagnostic gold standard, it often captures only the externalized behaviors of ADHD, frequently missing the internal cognitive and emotional "machinery" that drives functional impairment. This training bridges the gap between traditional diagnostic criteria and the nuanced, lived reality of the ADHD brain.

Moving beyond the "Big Three" (inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity), we will examine the neuro-biological foundations of Emotional Dysregulation, Sensory Overload, and Executive Dysfunction. Participants will explore how ADHD presents in "invisible" populations—including high-masking individuals, women, the Twice-Exceptional (2e), BIPOC communities, and those with the AuDHD (Autism + ADHD) co-occurrence. Through a blend of current research and clinical case studies, participants will gain a sophisticated toolkit to identify these "off-label" markers across the lifespan, leading to more accurate, neuro-affirming, and patient-centered interventions.

Learning Objectives

By the conclusion of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Analyze the Neuro-Cognitive Mechanism: Differentiate between DSM-observed behaviors and internal neurological drivers, specifically the "tug-of-war" between the Default Mode Network (DMN) and Task-Positive Network (TPN) that causes mental fatigue and "brain fog."
  2. Identify High-Masking Presentations: Recognize how ADHD manifests in "invisible" populations, such as women and high-achieving 2e (Twice-Exceptional) individuals, where cognitive strengths often mask executive function deficits until burnout occurs.
  3. Evaluate Complex Co-Occurrences (AuDHD): Distinguish and integrate the overlapping sensory and social markers of ADHD and Autism (AuDHD), focusing on how Emotional Dysregulation and Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD) present differently than primary mood or personality disorders.
  4. Implement Neuro-Affirming Management: Adapt evidence-based therapeutic strategies to address "uncommon" symptoms—such as sensory gating issues and inconsistent activation—to create tailored treatment plans for diverse patient populations.
