About this Event
Ageing infrastructure and rising performance demands are driving real innovation in how we repair and strengthen our built environment. Fibre Reinforced Polymers (FRP) are fast becoming a preferred solution for extending asset life, boosting structural capacity, and minimising disruption during repairs.
Join ACRA WA for an evening seminar exploring FRP applications in civil infrastructure, featuring case studies and technical insight from three expert presenters.
Speakers:
Ross Herbert — Fuze Solutions
Ross is the Engineering Manager at FUZE, having previously held the position of Technical Authority. He brings extensive expertise in the application of advanced composite technologies across the Oil & Gas, Mining, Defence, and critical infrastructure sectors, with a focus on structural and static mechanical applications.
Presentation: An overview of the use of FUZE composite systems for the repair, strengthening, and life extension of civil infrastructure, covering common structural applications, defect assessment, engineering design methodology, material selection, installation, and QA/QC requirements.
Craig Adams & Haydn Kirrage — Slabtec
Craig is the National Business Development Manager at Slabtec, having previously held the position of Technical Sales Manager, Refurbishment, with Sika Australia. He has extensive experience in structural strengthening with carbon fibre across the commercial, residential, and civil sectors, particularly in the growth of the adaptive reuse sector.
Haydn is a construction professional with extensive experience in structural repair, strengthening, and concrete remediation. At Slabtec, he plays a key role in delivering innovative, engineered solutions for complex structural challenges across commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects.
Presentation: A high-level technical overview of CFRP, including its engineering principles and how strengthening solutions are developed, followed by a series of case studies, both well-known and complex, showcasing the diversity and capability of CFRP.
Dr Mike Sooi — WSP
Dr Mike Sooi is a Principal Structural Engineer at WSP. He obtained his structural engineering degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and Cornell University, both in the USA, and brings 40 years' experience across the USA, Australia, and internationally in bridges, civil infrastructure, high-rise buildings, long-span roofs, and structural research and investigations. His major clients include the Public Transport Authority (PTA) and Main Roads WA (MRWA), with major projects including the Swan River Crossings, Armadale Line Level Crossing Removal, Perth Stadium Train Station, and the Metropolitan Road Improvement Alliance.
Presentation: The retrofitting of pier columns in BR1030 (Mitchell Freeway to Graham Farmer Freeway) using FRP wrapping, covering analysis and design requirements, technical requirements, surface preparation, atmospheric conditions, and site repair outcomes.
