Black People Hike LV x Women in STEM Walkathon: Mount Charleston Community Hike
Join Black People Hike LV in partnership with the Women in STEM Walkathon for a scenic, beginner-friendly morning on Mount Charleston! Whether you are hitting the trail for the first time or looking to connect with an uplifting outdoor community, this hike is built for all paces and all vibes.
We will be trekking the Acastus Trail, a gentle, scenic path nestled in Kyle Canyon that winds through pine stands, interpretive historical markers, and mountain views.
Every step supports a purpose: event proceeds directly empower Black students pursuing degrees and careers in STEM at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). We hike together, we lift together!

- Date: Saturday, October 10th
- Meetup Time: 10:00 AM
- Location: Mount Charleston Visitor Gateway (Kyle Canyon)
- Trail: Acastus Trail
- Difficulty: Beginner-friendly (approx. 3 miles round-trip, gentle grade)
- Pace: Leisurely / Community pace (no hiker left behind)
What to Bring
- Water: At least 1.5–2 liters to stay hydrated at elevation.
- Footwear: Comfortable athletic shoes, trail runners, or hiking boots.
- Layers: Mountain temperatures can be cooler than the valley—bring a light jacket or windbreaker.
- Sun Protection: Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat.
- Snacks: Light trail snacks (fruit, granola bars, trail mix).
