Join artist Helen Simms for a relaxed and inspiring day of expressive landscape painting at the beautiful Westbury Arts Centre.Places are limited to just 10 participants, allowing plenty of individual guidance and support throughout the day. Previous workshops have regularly sold out, so early booking is recommended if you'd like to secure a place.
This workshop is about moving beyond literal representation and exploring how colour, shape, texture and mark-making can transform a familiar landscape into something atmospheric, expressive and personal.
Through demonstrations, guided exercises and supported painting time, you'll learn how to simplify the landscape, use colour to create mood and atmosphere, and build expressive paintings through layering, tonal variation and intuitive mark-making.
You'll explore:
• Simplifying and abstracting the landscape
• Using colour to create mood, atmosphere and depth
• Layering, blending and texture
• Looser, more confident mark-making
• Building a painting without becoming tied to literal representation
Suitable for beginners and experienced painters alike. The workshop is demonstrated in oils, but you're very welcome to work in acrylics too. Just let me know when booking.
Included:
• All paint and core painting materials
• Canvas or painting board
• Easels and equipment
• Demonstrations and guided exercises
• Tea, coffee and light refreshments
Please bring a landscape photograph to work from, a few favourite brushes and an apron or old shirt.
Previous workshops have regularly sold out and places are intentionally kept small. If you'd like to spend a creative day exploring colour, atmosphere and expressive landscape painting with me, I'd love you to join us. Book early to avoid disappointment.
