Across the two face-to-face days, you’ll cover the role and responsibilities of the first aider, incident and casualty assessment (including scene survey and primary survey), and how to respond to a wide range of emergencies.
Core emergency skills (practical focus):
- CPR and safe use of an AED
- Managing an unresponsive casualty (breathing and not breathing normally)
- Choking (recognition and treatment)
- Wounds, bleeding, and shock
- Seizures - plus broader unconscious casualty care
Additional workplace first aid topics include:
- Poisons, asthma (including hyperventilation), anaphylaxis (with practical assessment)
- Chest injuries, heart attack (including angina), stroke
- Fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains (including support and elevated slings - practical assessment)
- Head, neck, back and spinal injuries (including Manual Inline Stabilisation - practical assessment)
- Epilepsy, diabetes, eye injuries, burns and scalds
