NALBINDING A&S ClassTuesday, August 18th
At the Cozy Craft Room
Taught by Carol of Twin Moons
Nalbinding (or nålbinding) is an ancient single-needle textile technique that predates both knitting and crochet. Instead of using a continuous yarn ball with active loops, it uses short, manageable lengths of thread passed entirely through each previous loop to create a durable, non-fraying fabric. It uses a single flat, eyed needle (traditionally bone, wood, or antler) and short lengths of yarn (typically wool). The stitches are formed and tensioned around the crafter's thumb. New thread lengths are joined by felting the ends together rather than tying knots and because the entire tail of the yarn is pulled through every stitch, the fabric will not unravel or run if cut.
