About this Event
For the children of Holocaust survivors, the loss of family and loved ones who perished permeate their lives. In her award-winning book, Aunt Bird, Yerra Sugarman incorporates historical and familial sources to imagine the voice of her mother’s sister, Aunt Feiga, who was murdered by the Nazis in the Kraków ghetto in Poland, 1942, when she was twenty-three. Join us for a special reading and discussion of these poems which create a monument made of words in honor of both Sugarman’s aunt and those whose lives have been silenced by oppression.
The Kupferberg Holocaust Center series, Remembering the Holocaust Through Poetry, explores the work of poets who respond, document, and educate about the tragedy's enduring physical, emotional, and artistic impact. It is co-sponsored by
