The Art of Connection: What Holds Us Together
A First Friday Art Exhibition, Downtown Tuscaloosa
Join us Friday, November 6, for an evening celebrating local art, artists, and the connections that bring us together.
As part of Downtown Tuscaloosa's First Friday, we invite you to visit Harrison Galleries for the first year of this curated group exhibition, featuring 16 women artists from our local arts community.
The Evening's Schedule
5:30 PM — A Reading with Brooke Champagne
Join essayist Brooke Champagne as she reads two pieces of her writing, offering a literary beginning to an evening centered on connection and shared experiences.
6 - 9 PM — Art Exhibition & Opening Reception
Explore the work of 16 local artists, upstairs gallery
Curated by Ruth Jatib O’Connor and Sharron Rudowski, the exhibition brings together artists working in a wide range of media, including painting, drawing, photography, digital art, sculpture, ceramics, quilting, textiles, and mixed media.
What holds us together?
This is the guiding question behind the exhibition. Each participating artist was invited to interpret the theme through their own work and perspective. The responses explore ideas and experiences in relationships, community, family, memory, nature, place, care, identity and resilience.
The exhibition is inspired by the work of Allison Grant, a Tuscaloosa artist and recipient of the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship, one of the most distinguished honors awarded to artists and scholars. Through this exhibition, we are proud to recognize her accomplishment and celebrate her work within our local arts community. Her photographic project “Holding Together” which will be on display, explores connection, care, resilience, and community through images of plants and human hands.
Artwork descriptions throughout the gallery will offer insight into how each artist approaches the shared question, revealing both individual stories and common threads.
Support Local Artists
All exhibited artwork will be available for purchase, with 100% of proceeds going directly to the artists. This is an opportunity to discover original work, meet local artists, and support the creative community in our area. Please come ready to support!
AND there’s more! Make an evening of it…
The Woodworkers Association of West Alabama (WAWA) will also hold its annual exhibition in the first floor gallery. Visit both exhibitions and enjoy a full evening of art and creativity at Harrison Galleries.
Bring your family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues. We look forward to celebrating with you!
