Step into the Fort precinct and discover the story of Bombay’s Parsi community through six historic fire temples, each offering a glimpse into the community’s history, architecture and contribution to the city.This walk traces six Agiaries across a compact stretch from Kala Ghoda to Bazargate, exploring how Parsi merchant families helped shape Bombay over three centuries. Along the way, we’ll look at the city’s oldest surviving Agiary, striking Persian-influenced stonework, the philanthropic institutions built by merchant families, and the changing architectural language of these places of worship.
The walk also follows stories of disaster, rebuilding and architectural change, from fortress-like enclosures to Neoclassical and Art Deco façades.
This is a walk about much more than fire temples. It is a story of family, faith, philanthropy, architecture and the making of Bombay.
