Music has a way of moving us.The Pensacola Civic Band opens its 2026–27 season, **A Season in Motion**, with **A Time to Dance** — an evening filled with bold rhythms, sweeping melodies, theatrical energy and music that refuses to sit still.
But don’t let the title fool you. This isn’t simply an evening of traditional dance music. Instead, the program explores the many ways composers have used movement, rhythm and the idea of dance to create music with personality, momentum and color.
The program includes selections such as Clifton Williams’ Symphonic Dance No. 3, Shostakovich’s Waltz No. 2, Dance Music from Fiddler on the Roof, and more.
And this concert comes with a special connection to the music.
Composer and educator David Samuel, band director in Foley and composer of "Dance of the Imp," will join the Pensacola Civic Band as a special guest conductor. Audiences will have the rare opportunity to experience a work with its composer on the podium, bringing his own interpretation, character and energy directly to the performance.
Whether you’ve been coming to Pensacola Civic Band concerts for years or this will be your first, we invite you to join us as we begin another season of making music together.
Come hear what happens when the music itself starts to move.
