Join Rooted in Foods for an afternoon celebrating German heritage through a cooking and cocktail demonstration. This mostly demonstration-style class will feature cooking techniques and tasting opportunities, with a few volunteer-assisted hands-on moments from the audience.
Together, we'll prepare German and German-American dishes while highlighting local ingredients and products. Each guest will receive recipes to take home, enjoy generous tastings of all featured menu items, and leave with a special party favor.
On the Menu
Braunschweiger Spread
Inspired by German dishes, this rich, savory appetizer features Braunschweiger blended with cream cheese and seasonings for a smooth, flavorful spread. This classic spread was popularized as a party food during the American Mid-century “cheese ball craze”.
Obatzda
This iconic Bavarian beer garden cheese spread combines soft cheese, butter, spices, and other flavorful ingredients into a creamy, tangy appetizer traditionally enjoyed with pretzels and cold beer.
Königsberger Klopse
One of Germany's most beloved comfort foods, these tender meat dumplings are gently poached and served in a velvety caper cream sauce. We’ll discuss how to incorporate locally sourced meat and vegetables into this dish.
Cocktail Demonstration
In addition to the cooking demonstration, guests will enjoy a look at two refreshing German-inspired beverages:
Shandy
A crisp, easy-drinking mix of beer and lemonade, especially popular at warm-weather gatherings and beer garden celebrations.
Hugo Spritz
A light and refreshing cocktail featuring elderflower liqueur, sparkling wine, soda water, and fresh mint. Elegant, aromatic, and perfect for entertaining. This cocktail will feature Wichmann Vineyard Perle Sparkling Wine.
Cocktails will be available for purchase through the Elks Lodge bar.
