About this Event
Coming to Boston for two performances only, experience a rare Script-in-Hand performance of Keith Huff’s acclaimed drama A Steady Rain, starring Jeffrey Donovan (Burn Notice, Law & Order, Fargo) and Jonathan Tucker (I Will Find You, Kingdom, Westworld), directed by Steven Maler.
Just two actors, two scripts, and an audience close enough to feel every shift in loyalty, fear, and betrayal. This stripped-down, intimate performance puts Huff’s blistering story exactly where it belongs: in the hands of the actors and the imagination of the audience.
Set against the rough streets of Chicago, A Steady Rain follows Joey and Denny, lifelong friends and police partners whose loyalty to one another is tested when a routine call spirals into tragedy. As the consequences close in, friendship, duty, violence, and complicity collide. What follows is a gripping descent into a world where right and wrong are rarely clean, where friendship can become complicity, and where the instinct to protect someone you love may ultimately destroy you both.
Raw, darkly funny, morally combustible, and uncomfortably intimate, A Steady Rain asks a devastating question: How far would you go to protect the person who has always had your back?
"Gritty, rich, thick, poetic and entirely gripping noir tale of two Chicago police officers whose inner need to serve and protect both consumes them and rips them." - Chicago Tribune
"Huff's vivid, intricately layered script... lifts [the play] far above the usual clichés, both detaching us from the melodrama and imbuing it with the force of tragedy." - Time
"A Steady Rain turns out to be less like the perpetual drizzle of its title and more like a snowball that builds to an avalanche. While Huff starts with a couple of familiar characters... he deepens them into complex figures, compellingly human even when at their most despicable... A Steady Rain [has] genuine dramatic power and a sense of true tragedy." - Variety
"Characteristic of Chicagoland theater at its gritty, no-nonsense best... An irresistibly forceful exercise in noir-style tandem storytelling." - The Wall Street Journal
