If two is company and three is a crowd, what do you call a concert with five soloists? It’s nothing short of an extravaganza, highlighting the incredible local talent within the Chamber Orchestra’s ranks. In addition to Giuseppe Valentini’s famous concerto grosso – a Baroque musical form that contrasts a small group of soloists with the full orchestra, this performance will also feature the journey of a soul’s enlightenment from the satirical depiction of war in Henrich von Biber’s “Battalia” to the beginning of spiritual awakening in Eleanor Alberga’s “Sun Warrior”. Rounding out the program is the only symphony written by the “Spanish Mozart”, Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga.
Heinrich von Biber — Battalia
Eleanor Alberga — Sun Warrior
Giuseppe Valentini — Concerto for 4 Violins & Viola in A minor, op. 7, no. 11
Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga — Symphony in D major
