About this Event
Pull up a seat. Solange's A Seat at the Table turned 10 this fall, and we couldn't think of a better record to start our listening salons with.
A listening salon is pretty much what it sounds like. We gather around one record, listen closely, then talk about what we heard: the music, the context, the questions, and everything in between. thyrd space will chime in along the way with a little background on the music.
And this record gives us plenty to talk about. Identity, grief, rest, ownership, Black self-determination... it's all in there. The interludes from Master P and Mathew and Tina Knowles feel like conversations of their own. Ten years later, it still gives people language for the things that are hard to say out loud.
We'll have booklets with prompts and questions, plus paper for notes. But if there's a journal you love, bring it.
Come solo and make a new friend, or bring a friend and make even more friends. Either way, we'll save you a seat.
Doors open at 6:45PM and album starts at 7:05PM
