A Samhain Sensory Mark-Making Workshop 🍂
Arkane collective presents a creative outdoor workshop inspired by Samhain, the changing season and the natural world around us.
As autumn moves towards winter, we’ll slow down and explore the textures, shapes and sounds found in the garden and around the trees surrounding the Scout Hut.
Rather than traditional observational drawing, we’ll experiment with ways of letting nature make the marks for us.
During the workshop you will:
• explore the textures of trees, bark and natural surfaces through rubbings
• collect fallen leaves, grasses and other natural materials and experiment with printing and embossing onto paper
• discover the beautiful impressions and unexpected marks that natural objects can leave behind
• finish with a short sensory listening and mark-making activity, responding to the sounds around us — wind, leaves, birds and movement — through expressive lines and marks
Samhain traditionally marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the darker part of the year. We’ll use this moment of seasonal change to think gently about transition, traces, memory and renewal through playful art-making.
No drawing skills are needed — there is no right or wrong way to make a mark.
