A Room of Her Own will invite Charlotte residents to experience art during an exhibition opening on November 1, 3:00-7:00 PM, and beyond the traditional gallery setting through several hands-on workshops and intergenerational programming, including:
- Positive Affirmation Totes with Mama Carolyn–Participants 13 and older will explore how art can support physical and emotional healing while creating a personalized affirmation tote.
- Made Paper Quilting Collage with Ida Mae Irby–Participants explore the history, symbolism, storytelling, and cultural traditions of quilting while creating an original paper quilt collage.
- Stitching Therapy: The Science of Crochet for Health & Wellbeing with Dr. Portia M. York–A hands-on experience connecting crochet, creativity, wellness, identity, and resilience. Participants create a hand-crocheted heart to use as a tactile grounding tool.
- Beginning Violin with Susan Shoemaker–An introduction to violin, ear training, pitch, rhythm, and bow technique for children ages 4–12, with instruments provided.
- Mixed Media & Found Things with Ellen Frances Johnson–Create unique mixed-media art using acrylic paint, wood, twigs, paper, and found objects to explore personal style, ancestry, rituals, and creative expression through texture and layering.
