About this Event
Patricia Suárez's Open Doors transports us to an unexpected hell: not of fire and brimstone, but of routines, guilt, and unresolved issues. In a peculiar reading room, Orietta, a strict school principal, and Ulrike, an actress who insists on being recognized as such, coexist. Both are serving punishments under the watchful eye of Dr. Recayente, an ophthalmologist tasked with examining their eyes and assigning them readings as part of their sentence. The monotony of this intellectual purgatory is disrupted by the arrival of Marina, a woman who made a suicide pact with her lover… but whose plan didn't go as expected. Three women, three generations, one shared hell. Amidst tension, irony, and confessions, the decisions that led them there will be revealed. Loosely inspired by Jean-Paul Sartre's No Exit, Suárez twists the existentialist premise and infuses it with biting humor and absurd situations that disarm the solemnity of eternal punishment. In this space, mysterious opportunities arise: “Open doors to reincarnation.” The possibility of returning to Earth brings into play something deeper than the desire to escape. Is it really better to return? What does it mean to leave hell behind… or to remain in it? With intelligence, irony, and a profoundly human perspective, Open Doors transforms damnation into comedy and eternity into a second chance.
