ABOUT SHAFER VINEYARDS:
Shafer Vineyards traces its roots to Napa Valley's earliest days of winemaking, with grape growing and commercial wine production on the property dating back to 1880. Through generations of stewardship, including during Prohibition, the site's rich agricultural heritage endured, laying the foundation for one of Napa Valley's most celebrated wineries.
A transformative chapter began in 1972 when John Shafer purchased the estate and planted its rugged hillside vineyards to Cabernet Sauvignon. Joined by his son, Doug Shafer, and longtime winemaker Elias Fernandez, the winery helped define a signature style marked by elegance, richness, and balance. Together, they created the iconic Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon, a wine widely regarded among Napa Valley's finest.
Today, with nearly 150 years of winemaking history behind it, Shafer Vineyards remains a benchmark of excellence in Napa Valley. Guided by a deep respect for the land and a commitment to exceptional quality, the winery crafts wines that capture the character of its historic estate while creating memorable experiences for wine lovers around the world.
