Caleb (Kaleb) Stewart was born June 9, 1975, in Talkeetna, Alaska. He was a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and a songwriter. He was also a friend, claiming ties to both Tampa and Gainesville. Those ties that bind the two cities are predominantly rooted in music, as Kaleb spent more than a few occasions traveling south on I-75 to share his music at Tampa Bay Area venues for the last 4 years. Connections were made and relationships forged, with Kaleb acting as an informal musical emissary. He was an exceedingly generous and sympathetic person who cared deeply about the well-being of his community, along with those whom he spent cherished time. He would schedule tours in Europe at least once a year, which also saw his circle of friends grow as even more bonds were established between Tampa and musicians based across the Atlantic. Kaleb had become a well-received presence in our scene, just as his music was a welcome addition to local live shows. This is a loss borne by many, including each of us within our little family of fellow musicians and music enthusiasts. He loved making noise in our town, from indoor stages to biergartens to back yard gatherings. The indelible absence of a friend is stark, though memories are lasting. We shall carry both profoundly. Kaleb Stewart was one of us. He will be missed. He will be remembered.
