About this Event
The Musical History of Capoeira - From Chains to Freedom is a powerful live performance that uses the music of Mestre Barrão to tell the story of Capoeira - from its African roots and the lives of enslaved Africans in Brazil, through resistance and survival, to the freedom, cultural pride and global movement it represents today. Through music, narration, dance and Capoeira, the audience is taken on a journey through time. The performance explores themes of ancestry, slavery, resistance, oppression, liberation, identity, and cultural preservation. As the journey unfolds, the roda transforms from a sumbol of survival into a celebration of freedom - and ultimately into a global cultural art.
