In one elegant afternoon or morning, experience Kōdō (the Way of Incense) and a Tea lecture and Tea ceremony — two of Japan's most treasured classical arts. Both AM and PM sessions share the same program.
Wonderful charitable opportunity to support Japanese traditional arts. Proceeds of this event will support preservation of Japanese culture, including maintenance of Kanso-an, one of the most authentic Tea Houses in California.
◆ Program
I｜Kōdō — The Way of Incense Lecture
Gyōyū Yashima, Licensed Senior Instructor of Oie-ryū Kōdō
Quietly appreciate the fragrance of rare aromatic woods in the traditional art of "monkō" — listening to incense.
II｜Tea Ceremony Lecture & Tea Ceremony, Omotesenke
Teruko Hatakeyama, Certified Teacher, Omotesenke-ryū
Observe the preparation of "usucha" (thin tea), savor Matcha and Wagashi (Japanese sweets), and learn the history of the Way of Tea — tracing Japan's unique aesthetic of harmony.

The heart of Kōdō is the quiet appreciation of fragrance. Out of respect for all participants, please observe the following:
🚫 No Fragrances
Please refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, body spray, strongly scented hair products, or scented lotions on the day of the event. Unscented products are appreciated.
🧦 White Socks or Tabi Required
Guests entering the tatami room at Kanso-an must wear white socks or tabi (traditional Japanese split-toe socks). Please bring a pair with you.
👘 Clothing Advisory
- Please avoid wearing jeans or garments that may transfer dye onto the tatami.

日本より特別にお招きした伝統文化師範の方々から直接学ぶ、贅沢なひととき。
香道と茶道、日本を代表する二つの伝統文化を午前・午後の2セッションでお楽しみいただけます。気軽に、でも本物の香道・茶道に触れてみたい方にぴったりの体験です。
北加日米会が誇る「観桑庵（かんそうあん）」にて、日本から特別にお招きした師範の方々が皆さまをお迎えします。
こちらのイベントの収益は、アメリカ唯一の中村昌生先生が設計されたお茶室、「観桑庵」の管理・保護をはじめとするサンフランシスコにおける日本文化の伝承に役立たせていただきます。

一｜香道講演
御家流香道師範 八島堯幽
東南アジア産の貴重な香木を炭で温め、立ち上る香りを静かに「聞く」伝統文化。
二｜茶道講演と実演
表千家流教授 畠山照子
薄茶のお点前を拝見しながらお抹茶を堪能し、茶の湯に相関した禅の精神、政治的権力、日本独特の融合の美を歴史に沿って学びます。

畳席チケットでは茶道実演にて、お茶室へお上がりいただきます。

香道は「香りを聞く」ことがメインの体験です。他の参加者の体験を妨げないよう、以下を必ずお守りください。

香水・コロン・ボディスプレー・強い香りの整髪料・ハンドクリーム等は当日のご使用をご遠慮ください。香りのない製品をご使用いただけると幸いです。

観桑庵の畳にお上がりいただく際は、白い靴下または足袋を必ずご着用ください。（当日ご持参ください）
