About this Event
What happens when we change the way we look?
Led by Bangladeshi artist Zihan Karim, this hands-on workshop invites participants to use mobile video as a simple and intuitive way of observing and reimagining the world around them.
Each participant will be given a prompt word and invited to respond by making a short video using their mobile phone. Handmade paper cut-outs - circles, squares, triangles and other shapes - will be used as physical frames or filters, creating small windows through which familiar surroundings can be seen differently.
The workshop is not about making a technically perfect film. Instead, it is an invitation to slow down, notice small details and experiment with framing, movement, light, texture and everyday objects.
Participants will move through the space creating their own responses to the same prompts. A single word might produce completely different images and interpretations, turning the workshop into a collective exploration of perception, memory and personal experience.
Material created during the workshop will then be used as part of an experimental new artwork, which will premiere at We Shine Community. Participants will therefore contribute directly to the development of a new artwork within the wider Memory Library programme.
No previous filmmaking or artistic experience is required.
What participants need:
A mobile phone with a working camera. A laptop is optional if they would like to transfer or share video files during the session.
