What does mental wellness mean to Black youth today? What challenges are young people facing, and how can we create spaces where they feel safe enough to speak openly about their mental health?
HerConnect, in collaboration with Calgary Faith Revival Church, invites Black youth in Calgary to join us for an open and meaningful conversation about mental health, emotional well-being, and the challenges young people face in their everyday lives.
This gathering aims to create a welcoming space where young people can share their experiences, express their concerns, ask questions, and learn from one another without fear of judgment.
Together, we will explore the realities of youth mental health, the influence of family, culture, faith, school, and social relationships, and the importance of seeking support when life becomes overwhelming.
What Will We Talk About?
- Mental health and today's youth: Understanding the challenges young people experience.
- Breaking the stigma: Addressing misconceptions about mental health within Black communities.
- Speaking up and seeking help: Exploring what makes it difficult to ask for support and how to overcome these barriers.
- Building supportive relationships: Discussing how families, friends, faith communities, and professionals can better support young people.
- Finding your voice: Creating opportunities for youth to share their perspectives and contribute to positive change.
Who Should Attend?
This event is for Black youth in Calgary who want to learn more about mental wellness, share their perspectives, connect with others, and participate in conversations that matter to their generation.
Whether you have questions about mental health, want to better understand yourself or your peers, or simply want to listen and learn, you are welcome.
