A Matter of Balance is an evidence-based program offered at the Jewish Community Alliance of Southern Maine in partnership with AgeMaine. This program is designed to help older adults who are concerned about falling build confidence, reduce their risk of falls, and maintain their independence. Through discussion-based sessions and targeted exercises, participants will learn practical strategies to view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing physical activity, and make changes at home to reduce fall risks. The program also focuses on improving balance, flexibility, and strength while helping participants feel more confident in their daily activities.
Many older adults limit their activities because they are afraid of falling, which can ultimately increase their risk of future falls. A Matter of Balance encourages participants to stay active, continue doing the things they enjoy, and take steps toward aging safely and independently in their own homes and communities.
