Join us at JACK in Clinton Hill for a special screening of , followed by a panel discussion bringing together public housing residents, organizers, and scholars.
A Home Worth Fighting For is a short documentary following residents of Fulton and Elliott-Chelsea Houses as they organize to stop the proposed demolition of their homes. What happens at Fulton and Elliott-Chelsea could set a precedent for the future of public housing across New York City.
PANEL DISCUSSION
Following the film, join us for a conversation about public housing, community power, and what is at stake for residents across New York City.
Samantha Johnson - A longtime Fort Greene NYCHA resident and community organizer whose work at the intersection of equity, disability justice, and community power has earned recognition across New York City and State.
David Burney - Co-founder and director of Pratt Institute’s Urban Placemaking and Management program, former NYC Commissioner of the Department of Design and Construction, and former Chief Architect of the New York City Housing Authority.
Dr. James Rodriguez - Associate Professor of Urban Studies at the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies, whose research and teaching focus on public housing, urban policy, and New York City, and who has also worked as a public housing and land-use organizer.
Moderator - Natasha Florentino, Director, A HOME WORTH FIGHTING FOR.
The discussion will center resident voices and bring them into conversation with people working on public housing, organizing, and urban policy in New York City.
