Have you ever wondered what it might be like to grow and use your own dyes for clothing or yarn? This talk will give you all the information you need to do it. Various dye plants including traditional and native will be covered. We will discuss seed starting, soil types, sunlight requirements, growth patterns, when, how, and which part of the plant to harvest. Colors ranging from brown to blue to red to yellow (and even a lasting green) can be produced using plants you grow yourself. Optional packets of information covered in the talk can be purchased for $10.Meet the Presenter: Gina Crowder Levesque
Artist Gina Levesque has been working in traditional fiber arts since a young girl. Gina has been working with and teaching classes in natural dyes, weaving, and rug hooking for over 25 years. Due to her love of the outdoors and training as a biologist, she finds the natural world to be the greatest influence on her work.
With biology degrees from Purdue University, University of Arkansas, and Oklahoma State University, she has also attended numerous natural dye workshops and classes. . Additionally, she has been blessed to work with several Cherokee artists who have been designated National Treasures.
As an instructor, she has conducted classes, workshops, demonstrations, and given lectures on natural dyes throughout the United States. Her fiber art business, Across Generations, provides supplies and beginning projects to those interested in natural dyeing, rug hooking, and penny rugs.
