About this Event
A Community Conversation with
Congressman Jim Clyburn
In his powerful, inspirational new book, THE FIRST EIGHT: A Personal History of the Pioneering Black Congressmen Who Shaped a Nation, Congressman Clyburn shares the stories of the first Black politicians to go to Congress from his home state and how they blazed a path for his own ascent. Through the trials, triumphs, and challenges the men faced, Congressman Clyburn reveals an insightful new way of understanding the complex period between the Civil War and the present, one that until now has buried their life stories. Their story is our story.
James E. Clyburn is the Congressman representing South Carolina’s 6th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he previously served as Majority Whip.
