What the 8 Days Do
- Restore — a hot spring town in the hills, a misted lake, and a volcanic sand bath in Beppu where you cannot hold a phone.
- Relate — whisking matcha in Ureshino, where rushing the process makes a worse bowl of tea. An evening at Fukuoka’s yatai food stalls, 10 seats at an open-air counter.
- Reveal — Takachiho Gorge, wild dolphins off the Amakusa coast, and the plum trees at Dazaifu in bloom while the air is still cold.
