About this Event
Cardiology is the branch of medicine that focuses on the heart and blood vessels, collectively known as the cardiovascular system. It deals with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of conditions that affect how the heart functions and how blood circulates throughout the body.
At its core, cardiology helps manage common and serious conditions such as coronary artery disease, heart attacks, heart failure, arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats), and hypertension (high blood pressure). Specialists in this field, called cardiologists, use a range of tools—like ECGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, and cardiac imaging—to evaluate heart health.
Cardiology is broadly divided into areas such as:
- Interventional cardiology – minimally invasive procedures like angioplasty and stenting
- Electrophysiology – studying and treating heart rhythm disorders
- Preventive cardiology – reducing risk factors like obesity, smoking, and high cholesterol
- Pediatric cardiology – treating heart conditions in children
With heart disease being one of the leading causes of death globally, cardiology plays a critical role in early detection, lifestyle management, and advanced treatments, helping people live longer and healthier lives.
