64 Funnycars are excited to play Nanaimo for the first time ever as we celebrate the re-issue of our 1989 album Happy Go Lucky on 604 Records! The great Gerard Van Herk (Deja Voodoo) will be joining us on the bill and Nanaimo's venerable Teenage Tiger will be kicking things off for the evening.
About the bands:
64 FUNNYCARS
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, 64 Funnycars made an impression far beyond their hometown of Victoria with their uniquely hook-filled songs and countless high-octane shows, while putting out two vinyl releases and two cassettes, contributing songs to several compilations, and touring multiple times across Canada. Through their Decades imprint, 604 Records has re-released 64 Funnycars’ Happy Go Lucky LP. The original band lineup of Tim Chan, Eric Cottrell, Eric Lowe, and Colin Macrae are back and playing shows in 2026 and beyond. 604 Records will also be re-issuing the Hogwild EP (with bonus tracks!) on vinyl and streaming services in Fall 2026.
GERARD VAN HERK
Gerard was the singer and guitarist of 1980s “sludgeabilly” duo Deja Voodoo and a co-founder (with drummer Tony Dewald) of the influential Montreal record label Og Music. In 2024, after over 30 years out of the music business, Gerard got together with rockabilly wildman Bloodshot Bill to record new music; The Shot of Blood EP was released in early 2025. The joy of that experience (and a sharp reminder of the fragility of life in Tony Dewald’s recent passing) led Gerard to write and record over 40 new songs, mostly low-fi garage-rock-blues-punk with 19 appearing on the 2025 Martian Kiss LP. In August 2026, Gerard and Toronto drummer Paddy Burns (Ichi-Bons, Shook Boys) recorded a 4-song EP, Wolfmannikin, out later in 2026 on Toronto’s Crash ‘n’ Burn Records.
TEENAGE TIGER
Nanaimo's rockin' heroes, featuring the wild, growling vocals of Steve Lebitschnig (Fascinating Rhythm Records), will be bringing their curated set of garage rockers to the show. Think Sonics, David Clayton-Thomas, and other classics from the genre. Always a fun time when these guys play.
