About this Event
After the sell-out success of the premiere of Phil Basi’s documentary film ’50 Years of Derby Caribbean Carnival’ back in September at QUAD we’re providing staff and members of the public with another opportunity to see the film on Thurs Nov 19th as an extension to the University of Derby's Black History Month events.
Derby's Caribbean Carnival is one of the most high-profile and certainly most vibrant celebrations of multiculturalism in the city. This event involves the research of academics and students within the Creative and Cultural Industries Research Theme and explores the history and legacy of the Carnival through the screening of the film by Derby filmmaker Phil Basi followed by a panel discussion. The panel will be made up of the film's director Phil Basi, University of Derby PhD researcher Sam Hudson and members of the Derby West Indian Community Association Berimma Sankofa and Devon Daley and will explore the importance of promoting cultural heritage and identity through events such as the Caribbean Carnival.
