About this Event
Understanding your teenager, yourself and the space between you
Parenting a teenager can sometimes leave you wondering:
Why don’t they understand me?
Why won’t they talk to me?
Am I helping, or making things harder?
How do I support them while giving them space to become themselves?
Staying Connected is a five-week conversation-led group for parents and caregivers of young people aged approximately 11–18.
It offers a space to slow down, think together and develop a deeper understanding of yourself, your teenager and the relationship between you.
You don’t need to be in crisis, and you don’t need to have all the answers. You might simply be finding this stage of parenting difficult, noticing more anxiety or distance, or wondering how to stay connected as your teenager grows and changes.
Over the five weeks, we’ll explore:
- Anxiety and emotional overwhelm
- Identity, growing up and becoming more independent
- Communication and what happens when we feel misunderstood
- What might be happening beneath behaviour
- How our own emotions are affected by our teenager’s struggles
- Staying connected through difficult moments
- Supporting our teenagers without always trying to fix things
This isn’t about being given a list of things you should be doing as a parent.
Instead, it is a supportive and reflective space to become curious about what is happening for you and your teenager, hear from other parents and find new ways of understanding the difficult moments that can arise between you.
Who is this group for?
This group is for parents and caregivers of teenagers and young people aged approximately 11–18.
You might come because your teenager is experiencing anxiety, withdrawing from you, struggling with big emotions or finding relationships difficult.
Or things might simply feel different as they grow older, and you’d like some space to think about how your relationship is changing and how you can stay connected through it.
This is a reflective parent group rather than group therapy. You can share as much or as little of your own experience as feels comfortable.
Pricing
We want specialist support to be financially accessible, so places are offered using a sliding scale. Families can choose for themselves the price that best reflects their circumstances. Everyone receives exactly the same five-week programme, whichever price they select. The lower prices do not reflect a difference in the quality or value of the support- they are offered so that cost does not prevent families from taking part.
Each ticket books one parent or carer onto the complete five-week programme. Guidance beneath each ticket option will help you choose the price that best reflects your current circumstances.
This workshop is subsidised by Norfolk Community Foundation’s Love Norfolk Grant. If you need further support with the cost, please email [email protected] and we’ll send you a code to attend for free. No questions asked- we don’t want cost to be a barrier to joining us.
Your Programme Summary
At the end of the five weeks, you’ll receive a written Programme Summary covering the key themes and areas you have explored during the workshop.
This gives you something concrete to take away from the programme and can also be useful when talking with your child’s school or other professionals involved with your family. It can help you show what you have been exploring, the approaches you have learned about and the work you have undertaken as a parent or caregiver.
Your Programme Summary reflects your participation in a specialist-led parent programme. It is not an assessment or clinical report about your child and does not provide a diagnosis or replace individual therapeutic or clinical assessment.
