About this Event
Horror Fans! Grab some friends and a camera and make a horror film. It's the spookiest weekend of the year, in the spookiest town in all of Texas. Register your team for as low as $48 and then show up at the race kick-off the evening of October 21st. At 9PM, we will announce this year's themes, prop, location, and dialogue. Then your filmmaking crew will have exactly 48 hours to make a horror film. Turn it in on physical media at the race finish line and then one hour later we will screen all this year's films in the Big Top Tent in Downtown Denton as a part of the Day of the Dead festival! Winners will be onnounced at the concluision of the screening.
Whether you want to make a movie or simply watch them, this event is for you! Register your team or show up at the screening, either way we guarantee a terrifying time!
OFFICIAL RULES
- At least one person from each team must attend kickoff at 9 pm on October 21st.
- Completed films must be dropped off, in person, by 9 pm on Oct 23rd.
- Each team must register and pay an entry fee prior to kickoff. Fee amount is based on the number of team members (people who will be credited in the film and who will share in any prize.
- Each team will draw a sub-genre , a line of dialogue, a prop, and a location at the event kickoff. The completed film must include all four. Each team will get one redraw for one item.
- Films must be between 4 and 8 minutes long INCLUDING opening and closing credits, but not including the mandatory 10 second opening and 10 second closing title cards.
- Each film must include a title card at the beginning of the film that contains the Team Name, Film Title, and their 4 drawn elements. The title card must be 10 seconds long and does NOT count toward the total length of the film.
- Each film must include a title card at the end or the film that contains “Produced for 48 Hours of Hell: Denton Horror Video Race 2026.” The title card must be 10 seconds long and does NOT count toward the total length of the film.
- All work on the film must take place during the allotted 48 time period. Gathering cast, crew, and equipment before hand is fine, but writing, shooting, editing, etc must take place during the 48 hour period.
- Each film must adhere to the horror sub-genre drawn, use the line of dialogue provided verbatim, show the location, and use the prop on screen. Any films that do not will be disqualified fropm awards.
- Teams must not use copyrighted materials such as music, logos, characters, etc unless they have been granted permission to do so.
- Films must be turned in on a USB drive at the race finish line no later than 9 pm on Oct 23rd.
- Film race organizers reserve the right to disqualify any film that does not adhere to the rules of the race.
- Race start line will be the Denton Square Courthouse on the southside steps. Here we will announce this year's elements and the race will begin!
- Finish line will be communicated to all registered teams once the race begins.
