Join PSHF as we celebrate the legacy of our founder, Pete “The Pirate” Carolan, who was commissioned to paint the magnificent mural displayed at the museum entrance and dedicated to Captain William “Bill” Shepherd, USN (Ret.), a pioneering Navy SEAL and NASA astronaut who became the first commander of the International Space Station in 2000. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and MIT, Shepherd served with Underwater Demolition Team ELEVEN and SEAL Teams ONE and TWO before joining NASA in 1984. He completed four space missions, logged more than 159 days in space, and received the Congressional Space Medal of Honor.
