3 By 3: A tribute to Willie Dixon
Featuring:
Freddie Dixon- son of Willie Dixon
John Watkins- Willie Dixon's guitar player over 15 years
Tim Taylor- son of Eddie Taylor Sr.
Maurice John Vaughn- (Luther Allison, Son Seals, AC Reed bands).
Three renowned names of Chicago blues scene: Freddie Dixon, John Watkins and Maurice John Vaughn have joined forces, putting their musical and creative qualities to the service of listeners’ ears, on this double CD that presents a total of twenty-one songs, where the three musicians take turns both in the solos and vocals, each one printing his own and distinctive stamp. They are also surrounded and perfectly backed by a good number of musicians where Tim Taylor and Shirley Johnson stand out, all them giving intensity, coolness and feeling to each one of the songs included in this double recording.
Freddie Dixon passionately leads seven songs, all them coming from his father Willie Dixon he pays a warm and passionate tribute to while Vaughn only plays keyboards. On the other hand, John Watkins leads other seven songs where you will find Freddie Dixon on bass and Maurice John Vaughn on keyboards and sax. Finally Maurice leads the other seven songs where he sings and plays guitar and sax.
This explosive mixture gives as a result a repertoire of true original old school south side Chicago blues that all followers of this style will certainly love from the beginning to the end so, if you want to know the reason, the answer is simple, because their blues sounds totally effective, intense, genuine, honest and passionate. VERY GOOD. - LHDB
